This icaro is an Arkana. An Arkana is a protective icaro. Protection from unwanted energies, spirits that are
not needed for good continuation. This is an old icaro that we learnt from our first Maestra Ema'a Drolma
Mata. You can find a traditional version sung by Luis Panduro Vasquez. We chose to set this song in a gentle musical mood. We feel the nature of the music, the choice of instruments and the whole atmosphere of the song brings a gentle protection, taking you from a potentially dark place to a lighter version of yourself. The greatest protection, is changing your perception, your field of vision, your thoughts and all the concepts you
have attached to them. The song is mainly sung in Quechua and Dutch. (We pronounce the words stone blanket ’ or Rumi mantan ’ here as Rumi Mantoy.)
It is safe now to open the heart, let the walls fall, I am free. This line sung in Dutch is like an affirmation or mantra, offering the highest protection by going into total surrender and dropping all armour and masks. The stone hat and blanket refer not only to the protection you can raise but also to the walls you may unnecessarily put up to protect an old pain. This song is an invitation to wake up in the present moment and feel that time has passed and it s maybe no longer necessary to protect the little child within ourselves. It is time to free the heart and stop building walls. Transparency, neutrality and being present in this moment offer the highest protection and in doing so, we are actually ignoring the need for protection.
